The festival will commence with the UK premiere of "Kneecap", a film by writer and director Rich Peppiatt, and conclude with "Dìdi (弟弟)", directed by Sean Wang.
"Kneecap", an Irish-language film, emerged from the Sundance Film Festival in Utah with the 2024 Audience Award: NEXT. It narrates the real-life story of a Belfast rap group striving to preserve the Irish language amidst a civil rights movement in Northern Ireland. The film showcases the lives of Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, Naoise Ó Cairealláin, and their encounter with high school teacher JJ Ó Dochartaigh, leading to the formation of a politically charged rap trio. Notably, Michael Fassbender plays a significant role in the film, which is set for release in the UK and Eire in August 2024.
The closing night will feature "Dìdi", a narrative that offers a glimpse into the life of a 13-year-old Taiwanese American boy in California's Bay Area, exploring the complexities of adolescence.
