Annecy 2024 Unveils Full Official Selection
The Annecy International Animated Film Festival's annual press conference, held on April 25th, 2024 at the Centre national du cinéma et de l'image animée (CNC) in Paris, unveiled an expansive lineup for this year's festival. Artistic Director Marcel Jean highlighted key aspects of both the Festival and Mifa programmes.
This year's festival is set to open with the premiere of "The Most Precious of Cargoes" by acclaimed director Michel Hazanavicius. The film, also competing in the Official competition, promises to be a significant draw for the opening ceremony.
Annecy 2024 will also introduce a new non-competitive section titled "Annecy Presents," aimed at showcasing a diverse range of never-before-seen films across various genres. This addition underscores the festival's commitment to celebrating the broad spectrum of animation.
Among the special events, the festival is proud to host four distinguished guests. Director Terry Gilliam will be honored with the Festival Honorary Cristal for his lifetime achievements and will also conduct a Masterclass. Alain Chabat is set to present his latest work on the animated series "Astérix and Obélix, The Big Fight" for Netflix at one of the Screening Events. Additionally, Regina Pessoa, who designed this year's festival poster, will lead a Masterclass as the patron of the Campus Mifa, focusing on nurturing new talent. Lastly, Wes Anderson will share his insights through an exclusive Masterclass.
The festival not only offers premieres and competitions but also provides attendees with unique opportunities to engage directly with creators and learn about the production processes behind major animated works through its "Making Of" sessions.
Annecy continues to be a pivotal platform for both established and emerging talents in the animation industry, offering an extensive program that caters to all facets of animation and its development.
