Annecy Festival 2024: Record-Breaking VR Works Compete

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival, renowned for its dedication to the art of animation, has unveiled its VR Works Official Selection for the 2024 competition. A total of 10 virtual reality works have been chosen from an unprecedented 102 submissions, reflecting a broad international participation from 34 countries. Among the selected works, three have been directed or co-directed by women, highlighting the festival's ongoing efforts to promote gender diversity in the animation and VR sectors. The selection committee, led by Gala Frecon and Yves Nougarède, praised the "eclecticism of the productions" and the "powerful themes" that range from humanist and political issues to explorations of identity and ecology.

These immersive experiences will be available for viewing at Bonlieu, salle de création, and at the Chambre de Métiers et de l’Artisanat in the XR&Games Area. With free admission, albeit reservation required, attendees are offered a unique opportunity to delve into worlds crafted by filmmakers from 11 different nationalities, showcasing a wide variety of techniques and narrative styles.
