The Hiroshima Animation Season 2024 has announced its selected films from a record 2,634 submissions across 97 countries. The competition features various categories, showcasing a diverse array of global talent in animation.

The Hiroshima Animation Season 2024 has unveiled its selection of films for this year's competition, setting a new record with 2,634 submissions from 97 countries and regions. This significant increase surpasses the 2,149 submissions received for the Hiroshima Animation Season 2022.

In the short competition category, "Eye Drops on Short Stories/Society" includes notable films such as "There are People in the Forest" by Szymon Ruczynski (Poland), "Butterfly" by Florence Miailhe (France), and "Menagerie" by Jack Gray (USA). Other highlights include "All my Scars Vanish in the Wind" from Colombia and "Beautiful Men," a joint production from Belgium and France.

The "Short/Parable Now" category features compelling works like "Children of the Bird" by Julia Tudisco (Hungary) and "A Night at the Rest Area" by Saki Muramoto (Japan). Also featured are "Miserable Miracle," a collaboration between France, Japan, and Canada, and "Wander to Wonder" from the Netherlands and Belgium.

In the "Short/Vacility World" category, films like "I Would Eat It If I Could" by Bence Hlavay (Hungary) and "Compound Eyes of Tropical" by Zhang Xu zhan (Taiwan) are highlighted. The category also includes "Ruthless Blade" from China and "La Voix des Sirènes," a joint French and Italian production.

The "Short/Light Poem" category includes entries such as "Two One Two" by Shira Avni (Canada) and "From One Painting... to Another" by Georges Schwizgebel (France/Switzerland). Other notable films are "The Hour Coat" from the USA and "O/S," a collaboration between Hong Kong and Germany.

The feature competition includes standout films like "Eternal Spring" by Jason Loftus (Canada), "When Adam Changes" by Joël Vaudreuil (Canada), and "White Plastic Sky" by Tibor Bánóczki and Sarolta Szabó (Hungary/Slovenia). Additionally, "The Glassworker" by Usman Riaz (Pakistan) and "Sirocco and the Kingdom of the Winds" by Benoit Chieux (France/Belgium) are set to compete.

The Pacific Asian Youth category showcases works such as "Body of a Shadow" by Andrea Munoz Alvarez (Colombia) and "Sewing Love" by Xu Yuan (Japan). The category also includes "Bonem9" from Taiwan and "Wind Whisperer" from Germany and Ecuador.

In the Japan-commissioned works category, notable films include "おかあさんといっしょ" by Mio Ueda, "惑星" directed by Sawako Kageyama, and "DUSTCELL 'INSIDE'" by Ryo Yamada. Other entries are "WI-COCOON - ART TREAT SPA" and "プチプチ・アニメ" by Kenshi Yashiro.

This year's Hiroshima Animation Season promises a diverse and rich selection of animated works, reflecting the growing global interest and participation in the festival.
