Christine Vachon and Geoffrey Rush Join Crystal Globe Jury at Karlovy Vary IFF

Christine Vachon, acclaimed American producer, and Geoffrey Rush, award-winning Australian actor, are among the distinguished jury members for the Crystal Globe at the 2024 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic. Joining them are Icelandic author Sjón, Czech actress Eliška Křenková, and Hungarian director Gábor Reisz.

Christine Vachon, a celebrated American producer, and Geoffrey Rush, a distinguished Australian actor, are among the esteemed jury members for the 2024 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) in the Czech Republic. The festival, known for its prestigious Crystal Globe award, will feature a diverse and accomplished jury.

Christine Vachon has been a pivotal figure in independent cinema for over three decades. She co-founded Killer Films with Pamela Koffler in 1995, producing over 100 influential films, including "Boys Don’t Cry," "Far from Heaven," and "Carol." Her recent productions, Todd Haynes’ "May December" and Celine Song’s "Past Lives," have garnered critical acclaim, with "Past Lives" earning her first Oscar nomination for Best Motion Picture.

Geoffrey Rush, an internationally acclaimed actor, gained worldwide recognition with his role in "Shine" (1996), winning an Academy Award and several other prestigious awards. He has continued to excel in his career, earning an Emmy for "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers" and a Tony Award for "Exit the King." Recently, he starred in James Ashcroft’s thriller "The Rule of Jenny Pen" and received the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema at KVIFF in 2022.

The jury also includes Icelandic author and screenwriter Sjón, whose work in film includes the acclaimed "Lamb" (2021) and "The Northman" (2022). Sjón has been recognized for his contributions to literature and storytelling, receiving the Swedish Academy’s Nordic Prize in 2023.

Czech actress Eliška Křenková, known for her roles in "Winter Flies" and "Bird Atlas," brings her extensive experience in film and theater to the jury. She has been a prominent figure in Czech cinema, earning multiple nominations and awards for her performances.

Hungarian director Gábor Reisz, who gained fame with his debut feature "For Some Inexplicable Reason" (2014), rounds out the jury. His subsequent films, including "Bad Poems" and "Explanation for Everything," have received critical acclaim and numerous awards.

The 2024 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival promises to be an exciting event, with this distinguished panel evaluating the films competing for the Crystal Globe. Their collective expertise and diverse backgrounds will undoubtedly contribute to a dynamic and insightful jury process.
