The 2025 edition of the MONSTRA Lisbon Animation Festival in Portugal is now accepting entries, inviting animators from around the globe to participate in this prestigious event. Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the festival will take place from March 20 to 30, 2025, promising a vibrant showcase of animation with around 400 films presented across nearly a hundred sessions.

Building on the success of the 2024 edition, which saw approximately 3,000 films registered, MONSTRA continues to be a significant platform for both emerging and established animators. The festival features an array of competitive sections open for submissions, including International Competitions for Feature Films, Short Films, Student Short Films, Super Short Films, Perspectives, and Short Films for Children and Young People (MONSTRINHA). Additionally, there is a dedicated Portuguese Competition for Portuguese Short Films (SPA Competition / Vasco Granja).

One of the festival highlights will be a special focus on Austria, showcasing retrospectives and premieres from Austrian animators alongside world and Portuguese premieres. The event will span various venues, including cinemas, galleries, and auditoriums, creating a dynamic environment for celebrating the art of animation.

Filmmakers interested in submitting their work must ensure their films contain an animated sequence that constitutes at least 60% of the total running time. The festival welcomes animations of all backgrounds and techniques, encouraging diversity and creativity.

The deadline for entries in the Short Film Competitions for Children and Young People (MONSTRINHA) and the international competitive sections is October 20, 2024. Filmmakers with selected films will be notified by email by January 2025. The deadline for the Portuguese Competition is January 12, 2025.
