Annecy 2024: Highlights, Awards, and Key Figures from the Animation Festival

The Annecy 2024 Festival in France concluded on June 15th, honoring Portugal and dance as central themes. The event saw over 17,400 attendees and introduced a new XR&Games; Area. Key awards included the Cristal for Feature Film to "Memoir of a Snail" by Adam Elliot and four prizes to "Flow" by Gints Zilbalodis. "Percebes" by Alexandra Ramires and Laura Gonçalves won the Cristal for Short Film.

The Annecy 2024 Festival concluded on Saturday, June 15th, after seven days of celebrating animation. This year's edition paid tribute to Portugal and dance, while also focusing on innovation with the introduction of a new XR&Games Area. Over 17,400 attendees participated, bringing the vibrant world of animation to life.

At the closing ceremony, the festival awarded the Cristal for a Feature Film to "Memoir of a Snail" by Adam Elliot. "Flow" by Gints Zilbalodis was a standout, winning four prizes. The Paul Grimault Award went to "Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at the Window" by Shinnosuke Yakuwa. In the short film category, the Cristal was awarded to "Percebes," directed by Alexandra Ramires and Laura Gonçalves.

Guests enjoyed the world premiere of the first official animated video clip of Joe Dassin's song "Les Champs-Élysées," directed by Florent Grattery and produced by Grégory Allain, Studio Caribara Annecy, Groupe Caribara Animation, and Sony Music.

Key figures from Annecy 2024 highlight the festival's scale and diversity. There were 1,100 exhibiting companies, 400 journalists, and 330 buyers. Five new countries—Isle of Man, Faroe Islands, Oman, Tanzania, and Turkmenistan—were represented. The Video Library featured 595 works, 389 of which remain available for viewing until December 31st, 2024, depending on accreditation type.

The festival also issued 1,300 public passes and attracted 25,000 spectators to the open-air screenings on Le Pâquier. Over 600 volunteers contributed to the event's success, and the new XR&Games Area showcased cutting-edge developments in animation.
