53rd Molodist Film Festival Announces Dates, Visual Style, and Competition Lineup in Ukraine
The 53rd edition of the Kyiv International Film Festival Molodist is set to take place from October 26 to November 3 in Ukraine. This renowned event will screen approximately 200 films, showcasing a broad spectrum of modern young cinema alongside major works from festivals like Berlinale, Cannes, and Venice. In a move to refresh its branding, this year’s festival has adopted a new visual identity developed by McCann Kyiv under the slogan "Cinema that leaves traces."
According to McCann Kyiv, the new visual concept centers around the lasting impact of films. "Films on Molodist are not the kind of movies you watch today and forget tomorrow. They leave a mark," the agency explained. This philosophy has been reflected in the festival’s new look, featuring kinetic typography and an eye motif. The creative team described the eye as "a gate through which visual images pass and leave an imprint inside us."
Molodist KIFF remains Ukraine's only film festival certified by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) for specialized film events. The festival continues to focus on debut works, showcasing films by emerging directors from around the world.
The main venue for the event will be the historic "Zhovten" cinema on Kostyantynivska Street, while the opening and award ceremonies will be held at the Cinema House on Saksaganskogo Street. The festival will culminate in the awarding of the prestigious Grand Prix for the best film, which includes a $5,000 cash prize and the iconic Scythian Deer statuette.
This year, the National Feature Competition will feature several notable Ukrainian films, each competing for the $2,000 Scythian Deer Award. The lineup includes:

In a continuation of its partnership with FILMFEST HAMBURG, Molodist will also present its National Competition at the German festival for the third consecutive year. This tradition began in 2022, in the wake of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, as a show of solidarity and support for Ukrainian cinema.
The festival will open with Denys Tarasov’s Diagnosis: Dissent, and the closing film will be the documentary Fragments of Ice, directed by Maria Stoianova. This year’s jury includes prominent figures such as producers Natalia Libet and Anastasiia Bukovska, as well as film expert Dennis Rauch.
Molodist continues to play a pivotal role in the international film festival circuit, with a strong focus on young directors and new voices in cinema, making it a key cultural event in Ukraine and beyond.
