“A Garden Within” is a lighthearted 3D and 2D animated short film that follows Marshal, a spiritless but curious boy travelling through his destroyed city and home. Surrounded by loneliness and a society without colour, Marshal finds solace in a single blue flower that seems to guide them towards their closet?! The animation follows along into the representational portal of their inner mind. Through the portal, Marshall finds themselves and their environment completely transformed. Fueled by curiosity and the breathtaking desert landscape, Marshal discovers an ability to grow flowers. In little to no time, Marshall transforms the desert into a magical, flower filled world. In this bliss, they discover the power of queer identity, and the ability it has to change the landscape. However, just like any liminal world, it is simply a transitional space, and he soon comes to realise that he must return to the ‘real’. The film leaves the audience wondering if Marshall will be able to hold the hope they have found, and bring it back to the outside world?
