Paradises of Diane

A woman strolls through the bustling streets of Benidorm in Spain. She is alone and carrying nothing except a bag from the pharmacy. Diane has abandoned her newborn child and her boyfriend Martin in a maternity ward in Zurich. As night falls over Benidorm, the streets are lit by neon lights and Diane’s shadow moves to the rhythm of the city. Her quiet, impenetrable escape raises questions: What is she looking for in this foreign world? Among the package tourists, revellers and oddballs on the beach-front promenade, Diane spots Rose and follows her up to a belvedere. A tender connection develops between these two lost souls. The days go by and the possibility of returning to her old life seems more and more distant to Diane.
In Les paradis de Diane, Carmen Jaquier and Jan Gassman break down the myth of motherhood and the nuclear family and depict an inner odyssey.
