One of the most defining “non-places” of contemporary Greece, once a landmark of modernism, as well as a lasting promise of a distinctive cosmopolitan identity, the Elliniko International Airport is currently undergoing a process of transformation. Offering exclusive access to the modern ruins, with a tour guide who witnessed the golden age of the old Athens airport, this documentary introduces us to an intermediate, ethereal, and cruel world, where the dream of sailing and soaring into the sky collides with earthly structures, full of cracks and human traces. Unearthing the layers of Elliniko’s history like an archaeological dig, from its glorious past to its use as a refugee camp and the attempt to rebuild an Athenian Riviera, the filmmaker converses with ghosts, reminding us of the crisis’s persistent nature.
