The Mad Dog of Europe

Ten years before his CITIZEN KANE made cinematic history, Herman J. Mankiewicz worked on THE MAD DOG OF EUROPE, a film about the tragic fate of a Jewish family in Germany during Hitler’s rise to power. But the subject matter was too sensitive for Hollywood. Economic interests and political pressure led to the 1932 screenplay being shelved.
