Trailer / Teaser
Fierce, emancipated, bold, intoxicating, subversive, sensual, rebellious! A description of The Bride’s main protagonist Mary/Ida/Penelope, and of the film itself – a fresh reinterpretation of one of the most famous stories of all time, that of Frankenstein and his bride. With her second stint behind the camera, Maggie Gyllenhaal firmly establishes herself as a producer, director, and screenwriter alongside her remarkable career as an actor. Set in 1930s Chicago, her provocative dark romance is a stylized ride in which monsters and torrents of words come to life in order to launch an assault on the patriarchy and express a sentiment that generations of women have always hesitated to say aloud: “I would prefer not to.”
