No One Knows

There are relationships we consider close, relationships in which we believe we know so much about the other person, only to discover a vast distance between us. In No One Knows, Seok-hee and Min-ho are a married couple. Min-ho leaves for a trip to Norway, and then comes news she can hardly believe. From that moment on, Seok-hee begins trying to understand the husband she thought she knew. Her journey begins with an old notebook she finds in his study. That clue leads her to an encounter with someone else, and Seok-hee comes face to face with a husband she had never known at all, a man who now seems almost like a stranger. No One Knows does not rely on genre clichés or a forceful visual style, yet it quietly builds a deep emotional resonance beneath its calm, restrained surface. The director’s delicate control over the gradual revelation of secrets is impressive, and the process is shaped by subtle emotional landscapes. A queer dimension also runs through the film. This is the first feature by Lee Kwan-ju, who won the Audience Award at BIFAN with the 2020 short The Creature.
