Trailer / Teaser
Lan, a woman who appears to be homeless, wanders through Hong Kong collecting discarded objects. To others, they are nothing more than useless trash, but she believes these items are inhabited by the spirits of those who died under mysterious circumstances. One day, she stumbles upon a hanged body, an encounter that draws her into a chain of suspicious deaths. As a detective investigating the case begins to suspect her after she appears at every crime scene, the two cautiously inch toward the truth while keeping each other at a distance. At the heart of the film lies the tension between a medium who can communicate with spirits and a detective who trusts only logic and evidence — two characters standing at opposite ends of how they live and see the world. While offering the gripping suspense of a procedural and the pull of a mystery, the Pang brothers' signature eerie and sensuous horror direction heightens the genre pleasures. Josie Ho's striking performance as the unusual medium, in particular, adds weight and credibility to the story. A mesmerizing genre film where horror and mystery intertwine with remarkable precision.
