A great exercise in minimalism. Asceticism so characteristic of the style of Jean-Claude Rousseau (the world that passes, Lost Lost Lost 21. Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet in the film interpretation of the song Fréhel (1935): where have all my lovers gone / all those who loved me so / once when I was beautiful? Good-bye, infidels, I don't know where you are, I'm sure at other meetings... but we won't hear the words coming off the screen. The director, as in many of his films playing an unnamed character here, hums a once popular melody and leaves the audience in a mood of melancholy on the edge of the forest.
