Freak Show

Paratheatral performances from the 19th and early 20th centuries called freak shows made diversity a spectacle. The protagonists of these shows were treated like Freaks living to the delight of the entertainment-seeking storyteller. Four artists from Poland decide to confront this exclusive heritage: to regain subjectivity by organizing a performance that, instead of stigmatizing the unusual, celebrates it. Lady Picasso, Nadia" Róża "Markiewicz, Daniel" crisis thinker " Kotowski and Grandma form an eccentric collective of vulnerable people fighting stereotypes about disability. They love the flash of the flash and the admiration of the audience, they do not tolerate internet hate and prying eyes on the street. Łukasz Ronduda and Filip Pawlak invite us to their colorful microcosm – directors and curators who make Freak Show a portrait of an artistic Alliance on the border of opera, monodrama, drag show and performance. However, when preparing for the performance, the group is not lacking in doubt. Will they succeed in a historic revolt? How will the audience react to their show? Is the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw the right place for a freak show? One thing is certain: Ronduda and Pawlak's film offers artists a safe space to express themselves, free from prejudice, pity and a gram of falsehood.
