Gosteleradio of the USSR

Gosteleradio of the USSR (the State Committee of the USSR for Television and Radio Broadcasting) was the Soviet state body, headquartered in Moscow, that supervised all television and radio broadcasting in the Soviet Union. It traced its history to the All-Union Committee on Radio Broadcasting founded in 1931, took the name of State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting in 1970 and was abolished in 1991, when its property passed to the All-Union State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company. Central Television and All-Union Radio programmes were made by its own divisions, while feature and animated films for television were produced by film studios across the Soviet republics on its commission.
