Vienna Shorts

Vienna Shorts is the international short film festival of Vienna, organised by the association Independent Cinema. Each year it presents around 350 productions under 30 minutes in four competitions — the international Fiction & Documentary and Animation Avantgarde sections, the Austrian Competition and the Austrian Music Video Award (MUVI) — and in non-competitive programmes of international music videos, films for children and young people, and comedy. Juries of three film professionals award prizes worth around EUR 30,000 in total, and instead of trophies the main winners each have a newly planted tree in Vienna dedicated to them.

The festival is a qualifying event for the Academy Awards, the European Film Awards, BAFTA and the Austrian Film Award. Part of the programme is also shown online on THIS IS SHORT, the streaming platform of the European Short Film Network. The dates for the 24th edition are 25–30 May 2027.
