Kaboom Animation Festival

Kaboom Animation Festival is an international animation festival in the Netherlands, presented across Utrecht and Amsterdam with an online component. The festival launched in 2019 after the merger of two established Dutch events: Holland Animation Film Festival (founded 1985 in Utrecht) and KLIK Amsterdam Animation Festival (founded 2007). Its programme combines competitions and special selections spanning animated shorts and feature films, documentaries, student work, Dutch productions, commissioned projects, games, and expanded animation such as VR. The 2026 edition is dated 13–22 March 2026, with screenings and events hosted at venues including Slachtstraat Filmtheater and HKU locations in Utrecht, and Eye Filmmuseum, Melkweg and Boom Chicago in Amsterdam. The 2026 theme, “Human Touch,” frames a strand of programming focused on handcrafted approaches to animation.
