AVANCA combines international film competitions with practical filmmaking workshops in Avanca, in the Portuguese municipality of Estarreja. Its selection spans fiction and animation shorts and features, documentary television, experimental video, television series, virtual reality, AI films, trailers and music videos. World premieres compete for an additional award across submission categories. Creative workshops form international teams that make films in the village, while AVANCA | CINEMA adds an international conference on cinema, art, technology and communication.

Cine-Clube de Avanca and the Municipality of Estarreja organize the festival. The 30th edition’s main festival dates are 29 July–2 August 2026, with preliminary and satellite screenings earlier in July.
