Beyond Fest is a Los Angeles genre film festival run as a not-for-profit entity that raises funds for the American Cinematheque, the non-profit film institution with which it programmes and produces the event. Besides the annual autumn festival, it organises special screenings and premieres throughout the year. The selection favours horror, dark comedy and mind-bending films from around the world and mixes new premieres with restorations, anniversary screenings and retrospectives attended by filmmakers. Screenings take place at the Egyptian Theatre and the Aero Theatre, while new discoveries are shown free of charge at the Los Feliz 3. The festival describes itself as an event without VIP areas, badges, parties or panels.

The 2026 Los Angeles edition runs from 23 September to 6 October 2026. In 2026 the organisers also added Beyond Chicago, held at the Music Box Theatre on 2–5 April 2026.

Festival rules

Short films are up to 25 minutes, feature films 60 minutes or longer; films of 26–59 minutes are not considered. Submissions are online screeners only (private Vimeo or YouTube links or hosted files); films not in English must be subtitled or dubbed in English, and each film needs its own entry. Feature films need at least a Los Angeles premiere and must not be available on VOD before or during the festival. Short films have no premiere requirement, but a selected short that is online must be made unavailable for the month around the festival. Selected films may be asked for a professionally authored DCP. All non-original material in a film must be cleared.
