BREEDBEELD Short Film Festival

BREEDBEELD Short Film Festival focuses on Belgian short films by emerging filmmakers, including film students, independent directors and artists without formal film training. Its competition presents films made largely with the creators’ own resources, without VAF funding or a wildcard budget. Fiction, animation, documentary and experimental work form part of the programme, with conversations with filmmakers after competition screenings.

The festival is an initiative of BREEDBEELD, a support centre for people in Flanders who are not yet professionally active in film, photography or media art. Guest-curated screenings, script pitches and Super 8 premieres complement the competition. The dates for the 2026 edition are 5–8 November at De Cinema in Antwerp. All films have English subtitles.
