Cortomontagna is the film competition of Premio Leggimontagna, a prize for mountain literature run by ASCA, the association of the Carnia, Canal del Ferro and Val Canale sections of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI), based in Tolmezzo, Friuli Venezia Giulia. It accepts only short films about the mountains, up to 15 minutes long, approached from any angle: climbing, skiing and hiking, nature and the environment, or the lives of mountain communities. Entry is free and open to professional and amateur filmmakers alike, and the jury draws on experts in video production, visual arts and mountaineering. Entries compete in two sections, Short Films from the World and Short Films from Italy, according to where their stories take place.

Each edition closes with an awards ceremony and a screening of the winning films in Tolmezzo; the winners are also shown at the Kugy Mountain Film Festival in Tarvisio. The awards ceremony of the 2026 edition, the 12th, is on 30 January 2027.
