The Crested Butte Film Festival screens independent features and shorts in Crested Butte, a former mining town in the Colorado Rockies at 8,885 feet above sea level. It takes place in late September, when the aspen forests around the town turn gold, and traditionally opens with a bike parade through the streets. Screenings at the Center for the Arts and the Majestic Theatre run alongside panel discussions with visiting filmmakers and evening events.

The programme covers narrative and documentary features and shorts, with submission categories for Colorado filmmakers and student work. All awards are decided by audience vote, and one narrative short also receives a script consultation for its makers' next project. Michael Brody and Jen Sfalcin founded the nonprofit festival in 2010. The dates for the 2027 edition are 23–26 September 2027.

Festival rules

Films of any subject, from any country and of any length are eligible. Films must be in English or have English subtitles and must have been completed within the last two years. Submissions are made through FilmFreeway with an online screener; categories are feature-length narrative, feature-length documentary, narrative short, documentary short, Colorado filmmaker short and student short film. Selected filmmakers must provide an exhibition file by the date given for each edition. As a small nonprofit festival, CBFF offers submission fee waivers only to festival alumni.
