FeKK – Ljubljana Short Film Festival describes itself as the largest international short film festival in Slovenia. It was founded in 2015 and is organised by the Kraken Association for the Promotion of Short Film (Društvo Kraken), set up a year earlier. Its competitions centre on short films from Slovenia and Southeast Europe: FeKK SLO presents new Slovenian work, FeKK BAL gathers films from the wider Balkan region, now including Cyprus and Moldova, and the international FeKKids competition is judged by children in the audience.

Around the competitions, the festival programmes retrospectives, curated thematic and archive selections, visiting festivals, VR shorts, workshops and the PROFeKK industry programme, with screenings at the Slovenian Cinematheque, Kinodvor and the Cinematheque's open-air cinema at Metelkova. The dates for the 2026 edition, the festival's 12th, are 17–22 August 2026; its programme includes a Werner Herzog retrospective.

Awards and prizes

The International Jury presents the FeKK Grand Prix for the best film across the competitions, the FeKK BAL Award for the best film in the Southeast European competition and the FeKK SLO Award for the best film in the Slovenian competition. A Critics' Jury of young European film critics presents its own awards in FeKK BAL and FeKK SLO. Other awards include the Audience Award for Best Slovenian Short Film (presented by the ESFAA Festival Network), the FeKKids Audience Awards voted by children, the Best VR Audience Award and the Distribution Consulting Award by Radiator Sales for a Slovenian film.

Festival rules

Films are submitted via FilmFreeway. FeKK has three competition programmes: FeKK SLO for Slovenian short films and films by Slovenian filmmakers; FeKK BAL for films from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania and Serbia; and the FeKKids children's competition, open to films from all countries. All genres and formats are accepted. Films must be under 30 minutes (under 20 minutes for FeKKids) and recently completed; non-English dialogue and on-screen text need English subtitles. Picture-locked rough cuts may be submitted. Preference may be given to films not yet screened at other festivals. Selected films are screened free of charge to the public, and no screening fees are paid for competition films.
