Cinemística explores transcendental and contemplative cinema through philosophical, anthropological, spiritual, scientific and poetic approaches. Based in Granada, Spain, the festival welcomes work of any nationality, production year or length, including fiction, animation, documentary and experimental films. Its regular sections cover art-house cinema, visual anthropology, film-school work and films for children.

Arte7 Cinemateca organizes the festival under the direction of Manuel Polls Pelaz. Its principal venue is La Corrala de Santiago at the University of Granada, home to screenings and discussions since 2014. The 13th edition in 2027 carries the theme “Dreams & Dreams”; its official website gives provisional dates from mid-May to mid-June 2027.

Awards and prizes

The festival’s principal award is “La Lupa y el Imán” (“The Magnifier and the Magnet”). Its two symbols refer to filmmaker José Val del Omar: the magnifier represents the visible and rational, while the magnet represents intuition and the invisible.

Festival rules

Producers and filmmakers of any nationality may submit any number of works, provided they have not previously submitted them to the festival. All genres, production years and lengths are eligible, including short and feature films. Preselection uses online screeners; English or French subtitles are accepted for selection. Selected films normally require original-language versions with Spanish subtitles. Exceptions for English or French subtitles require prior justification, an English SRT file and an unsubtitled original version. Digital screening files such as MP4 are accepted; Super 8, 16 mm and DVD are exceptional alternatives. DCP is not accepted. Authors are responsible for rights clearances. Submitted copies enter the Arte7 Cinemateca collection and may be used without screening fees for its cultural activities and those of Asociación Guadalcine.
