PLAY Lisbon International Kids Film Festival

PLAY Lisbon International Kids Film Festival is devoted entirely to children and teenagers, showing short and feature films from around the world to audiences from babies up to age 16. The programme is grouped by age – 1–2, 3–5, 6–9, 10–13 and over 13 – and mixes live action, animation, documentary and experimental work, with films dubbed or subtitled in Portuguese where needed. Weekday sessions are set aside for schools and weekends for families, alongside workshops and talks.

The main venue is Cinema São Jorge on Avenida da Liberdade, with further screenings at the Cinemateca Portuguesa and Cinema Ideal. Prizes come from the audience, from a junior jury of children aged 6–12 and a teen jury aged 12–16, from a professional jury for animated and live-action shorts, and from an ECFA jury whose winner joins the shortlist for the best European short film for children. Industry days include a project showcase and a writing lab for projects aimed at young audiences. The 2027 edition runs from 27 February to 7 March 2027.
