Founded in 1977, Frameline is the San Francisco Bay Area’s annual international festival dedicated to LGBTQ+ cinema. The event showcases narrative features, documentaries, short films and other screen-based works by and about queer and trans communities. Screenings take place at venues in San Francisco and Oakland, accompanied by panels, filmmaker conversations, professional networking and community events. Frameline also presents juried and audience awards and serves as a BAFTA-qualifying and Iris Prize partner festival. Frameline51 represents the festival’s 2027 edition and is organised as an 11-day in-person programme.
