GLAS Animation Festival is devoted to independent animation and presents it as an art form in its own right. It is run by GLAS Animation, a non-profit organisation founded in 2014 that also funds new work by independent animators in the United States through the GLAS Animation Grant. At the centre of the festival is an international competition of animated short films shown in curated programmes, accompanied by special guests, retrospectives, panels and Q&As. The competition considers narrative, non-narrative, commissioned and student films in any technique, up to 45 minutes long and with at least 30 per cent animation; films made by AI are not accepted. Awards include the Grand Prix, High Risk, New Talent, Best US Film and an Audience Award.

The festival launched in Berkeley, California, in March 2016; after editions through 2022 it returned in 2025 in Los Angeles. The 2026 edition takes place in Los Angeles on 4–6 December 2026.
