IndieJúnior – International Children’s and Youth Film Festival of Porto
IndieJúnior – Festival Internacional de Cinema Infantil e Juvenil do Porto
IndieJúnior Porto shows films for children and young people in venues across Porto for a week at the end of January, among them the Batalha Film Centre, the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library, the Coliseu Porto Ageas and the Rectorate of the University of Porto. Sessions are planned for specific age groups, from babies at Baby Cinema screenings to secondary school students, with separate programmes for families and for schools. Pupils from local schools select part of the competition through the educational project “I Programme a Film Festival!”, run with Portugal’s National Arts Plan.
The international competition brings together around 50 recent short films — animation, fiction, documentary and experimental — judged by a jury of adults and young people and by the audience. The festival is organised by IndieLisboa – Associação Cultural, which also runs the IndieJúnior children’s section of IndieLisboa in Lisbon. It was first held in 2017; the 11th edition takes place on 25–31 January 2027.
