Animest places Romanian animation alongside international work through competitions, curated screenings and training in Bucharest. Founded in 2006 and organized by the Animest Association, the festival presents animated shorts, features, student films, documentaries, music videos and virtual-reality work. Its Romanian competition focuses on local productions and co-productions, while Minimest selects films for children aged four to fourteen.

The programme also includes retrospectives, animation workshops and professional masterclasses. Related initiatives include the Animation Incubator for high-school students, the Pitch, Please! and Toon Scripts pitching programmes, and Sisterhood of Young Animation Auteurs, which supports women working in animation.
