DOK Leipzig combines documentary and animated film in a single festival, a profile it has built since introducing a dedicated competition for animated films in 1995. Each autumn it presents some 250 short and feature-length films and extended reality works at cinemas and other venues across Leipzig, including a pop-up cinema at the city’s central station. Alongside the competitions, the programme includes retrospectives, tributes, the themed Animation Night and the XR exhibition DOK Neuland. The festival dates back to 1955, when it began as the Leipziger Kultur- und Dokumentarfilmwoche; it is organised by Leipziger Dok-Filmwochen GmbH, and its emblem is Pablo Picasso’s dove of peace.

DOK Industry, part of the festival since 2005, offers a co-production market, an archive market and networking for documentary professionals. The 69th edition runs from 26 October to 1 November 2026.
