Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia
Sitges – Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya
Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia is devoted to fantastic and horror cinema and is held in the town of Sitges, in the province of Barcelona. It began in 1968 as the 1st International Week of Fantasy and Horror Movies. The programme sets the newest genre films beside works that shaped the history of the fantastic, with tributes and honorary awards for people connected with the genre.
The Official Fantàstic Selection is a competition for feature films and for shorts of up to 30 minutes. Other sections include Noves Visions for experimental and hybrid work, Panorama, Midnight X-treme, Òrbita, Sitges Documenta, Brigadoon and Anima’t for animated features and shorts, while Seven Chances, programmed with the Catalan Association of Film Critics and Writers, revisits overlooked older films. The main venue is the Auditorium of the Hotel Meliá Sitges, and the Sitges Industry programme runs alongside the screenings. The dates of the 59th edition are 8–18 October 2026.
