Animatou Geneva Animation Film Festival
Animatou – Festival international du film d'animation
Animatou is an animation film festival in Geneva, run by the Animatou association, which was founded in 2006 under the name Cinématou. Each year the selection committee views around a thousand animated shorts and picks a little over a hundred for competitive programmes grouped by genre, theme or audience age: the International, Swiss, Doc'Anim (animated documentary) and Labo (experimental) competitions, Caramel and Pistachio for the youngest viewers, competitions for school classes, and Convergences, a programme for teenagers in the child and adolescent psychiatry division of Geneva University Hospitals.
Young audiences are at the centre of the festival: about half of its viewers are children from day-care centres, pupils and students, and several awards are decided by children's votes. Out-of-competition programmes add Swiss premieres of feature films, retrospectives and carte blanche screenings. The 21st edition runs from 1 to 10 October 2026.
