AnimArte divides its international student animation competition into Mini, for filmmakers under 18, and Maxi, for those aged 18 and over. Separate professional competitions focus on environmental films and world cultures, while Brazilian students have their own categories. Established in 2001, the festival combines animated short films with workshops, master classes and activities for educators. Professional, youth and audience juries take part in the selection process.
The dates of the 19th edition are 20–28 October 2026 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The AnimArte Grand Prix extends the festival through a travelling programme of selected films in Brazilian cities and other countries, with some stops awarding prizes through local juries.

Festival rules
The 2026 edition accepts animated short films up to 15 minutes long, containing at least 70% animation in any technique and not previously entered in AnimArte. International student entries are divided into Mini (under 18) and Maxi (18 and over); students must identify their educational institution. Films made during undergraduate, postgraduate, master’s or extension courses are eligible. Graduates may enter films made during their undergraduate or postgraduate studies. A completed, signed authorisation form is required. Films with dialogue in a language other than Portuguese require an English dialogue file with timecodes; the screening copy must be supplied without subtitles. The festival may change an entry’s category.
