PiterKiT presents short fiction, nonfiction and animated films created within the teaching programmes of professional film schools. Organised by the Saint Petersburg State Institute of Film and Television, it combines a competition for the institute’s students with an international competition for films from Russian and overseas film schools. Screenings accompany film discussions, masterclasses, creative meetings, retrospectives, and screenplay and producer competitions.

The festival’s history begins in 2001, and its international scope dates from 2013. From 2026, its two competitions share a single festival rather than separate stages, with films from both competing for the Grand Prix. The dates for the 2026 edition are 12–18 November in Saint Petersburg.
