International Film Festival Mannheim-Heidelberg (IFFMH) concentrates on discovering new directors. Its international competition, On the Rise, presents 16 first and second fiction features that compete for prizes from several juries, including the Grand IFFMH Award, the Rainer Werner Fassbinder Award and the FIPRESCI and Ecumenical awards. Further sections include Pushing the Boundaries, Filmscapes, retrospectives, a homage and the Young Film Festival for children, teenagers and schools; short films appear as opening films for selected screenings, among them selections from the Girls Go Movie festival. Screenings take place in cinemas in both Mannheim and Heidelberg.

The festival dates back to 1952 and ran for decades as the International Film Week Mannheim. Directors who showed early work here include François Truffaut, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Jim Jarmusch, Atom Egoyan and Hong Sang-soo. It is organised by IFFMH – Filmfestival Mannheim gGmbH, a company of the City of Mannheim. The 75th edition takes place on 5–15 November 2026.
