Jerusalem Film Festival
פסטיבל הקולנוע ירושלים
The Jerusalem Film Festival is an eleven-day July event organised by the Jerusalem Cinematheque – Israel Film Archive, with a programme of more than 200 films. Lia van Leer launched it in 1984; the first edition opened on 17 May 1984 with Ettore Scola’s Le Bal.
Israeli cinema holds a central place: the Haggiag Competition presents Israeli feature films, alongside Diamond competitions for Israeli documentaries and shorts and a competition for Israeli video art and experimental film. International sections include the International Competition, a first-film award, the In the Spirit of Freedom competition, an experimental documentary competition in honour of Chantal Akerman, Panorama and restored classics. Industry Days, led by the Jerusalem Pitch Point, connect Israeli filmmakers and producers with international partners. The dates for the 2027 edition are 21–31 July 2027.
