Octubre Corto
Octubre Corto is a short film festival in Arnedo, La Rioja, organised by the non-profit cultural association Asociación Cultural de Vanguardias Arnedanas Aborigen. Its national Official Section is open to Spanish-produced or Spanish-directed shorts of up to 30 minutes in three categories – fiction, animation and documentary – and the winners of these categories qualify for the Goya Awards. Two further competitive strands sit alongside it: Cortos Origen Rioja, for films shot in La Rioja or with a Riojan in a key role, and Realidades, an audience award for social-themed shorts. A Young Riojan Jury also gives its own prize.
The festival marks 2006, when screenwriter Rafael Azcona visited Arnedo, as its turning point: the Rafael Azcona Prize was created then and is awarded each year with the Ciudad de Arnedo Prize. Screenings take place mainly at the Teatro Cervantes, with education and social programmes for local audiences. The 28th edition runs 15–24 October 2026.
