The Netherlands Film Festival presents Dutch feature films, shorts, documentaries, series and digital productions in Utrecht. Its programme combines premieres and screenings with the Golden Calf competitions, a debut competition and a selection of graduation productions from Dutch film and art academies. The Focus programme explores filmmaking through discussions and interviews, while Storyspace presents interactive installations, virtual reality and other forms of digital storytelling.

Organised by Stichting Nederlands Film Festival, the festival also offers professional meetings and talent development activities for the Dutch audiovisual sector.

Awards and prizes

The festival presents the Golden Calf awards for Dutch film, series and digital culture. The debut competition awards the Film Prize of the City of Utrecht. The student competition includes awards for graduation productions, and the Dutch film critics present a separate critics’ prize.

Festival rules

Participation is generally restricted to Dutch productions, with Dutch status assessed through the festival’s points system. Submissions are made by the principal producer through a Mijn NFF account. The programme accepts feature films, documentaries, short films, drama and documentary series, and digital culture productions. Individual competitions have additional eligibility requirements; the student competition is for graduation productions from full-time higher professional courses at Dutch film and art academies. The official general regulations set out completion periods, restrictions and selection procedures.
