MARANIME links animation screenings in São Luís with a travelling circuit through other municipalities in Maranhão, Brazil. Coordinated by Instituto Formação, the festival is part of an animation project that trains young people and brings workshops and screenings to public schools. Its programme places films made by these students alongside Brazilian and international animation, with competitive short-film selections, special screenings, feature films and conversations with filmmakers.
The festival gives particular attention to children’s animation and work from Brazil’s North and Northeast. The latest documented edition dates are 3–7 November 2015, with a principal programme in São Luís and activities in other Maranhão municipalities.
