The Gijón International Film Festival (FICX) focuses on independent and auteur cinema, with particular attention to new filmmakers and formally adventurous work. Its official selection includes the Albar and Retueyos feature competitions, FICX Premiere and an international short-film competition. Fiction, documentary and animation share the programme, with an emphasis on European and Latin American cinema.

Enfants Terribles offers films for children and young people, while retrospectives and filmmaker focuses explore established and emerging bodies of work. Crossroads presents films selected jointly with the San Sebastián festival. Based in Gijón/Xixón, Asturias, the festival also supports filmmakers through FICXPro industry activities and SEMILLERU laboratories for projects in development and post-production.
