SUPERNOVA DIGITAL ANIMATION FESTIVAL ReGeneration - 6th Annual Edition 2021 Regeneration celebrates a period of renewed existence, an improvement of social and economic conditions, a release from corruption, positive feedback, and the reactivation of a catalyst. It represents the conceptualization of a generation that will disrupt the hegemonic structures of the past and a break from patterns that no longer serve. A REgeneration in the spirit of change and expansive reasoning towards an alternate future that puts digital motion artists and their work at the forefront. SUPERNOVA Digital Animation Festival brings an explosion of digital animation and motion art to the public through a singular, extensive network of LED displays located within the downtown Denver Theatre District, and to animation enthusiasts worldwide through the festival’s robust online presence. SUPERNOVA is presented by Denver Digerati a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supporting the mission to advance digital motion art through exhibition and education, accelerating the merger of art and technology. Learn more at denverdigerati.org SUPERNOVA presents short-form animation and motion-art created by individual artists or teams using computer software as the focal development of their work. Longer form animations are also welcome for consideration. All works must be suitable for public presentation. Genres are not limited but tend toward narrative, abstract, experimental, playful, mind-bending, gaming/machinema, music video, educational, documentary, etc... Artists working with adult themes may be considered for the annual “Overdrive - Adults Only Animation” program, curated by Faiyaz Jafri. Supernova dedicates approximately $5,000 towards cash-prize awards and artist residencies within the the Festival’s annual focal Competition program, as well as other categories such as Director’s Choice, Student Shorts and others as funding or theme allow. Supernova typically collaborates with partner venues and screens throughout the community for special screenings, curated programs/exhibitions and official selections. In 2019 Supernova initiated a partnership with The Arts Commission to present Supernova programming at the annual Momentum Festival in Toledo, held concurrently with the festival dates in Denver. Unfortunately, most of that was ravaged by COVID19 in 2020, but Supernova still managed to host a live public display via our singular outdoor LED infrastructure that will continue to carry forward in 2021. Live programming scheduled for Supernova 2021 currently includes: - Night Lights Denver Video Mapping Commissions presented in conjunction with Denver Theatre District, throughout the month of September. - Silent Screen activations on public LED as part of exclusive live event presented to public on third Saturday of September. Supernova has been funded through sponsorships with the Denver Theatre District, Denver Arts & Venues / Next Stage NOW, The Arts Commission Toledo, Colorado Office of Film Television & Media, Orange Barrel Media, Branded Cities, and many other groups and organizations, including an arts innovation Grant from Bonfils Stanton Foundation.
