Cinanima 2023 Selection Revealed: A Record-Breaking Year with 130 Films in Competition

CINANIMA 2023 is gearing up for an unprecedented year of competition. After reviewing over 3,700 submissions from 123 countries, the Selection Jury has chosen a record-breaking total of 130 works for competition. The international competition will feature 98 works from 33 nations, with France, the United Kingdom, and Israel leading the pack in terms of the number of films selected. This competition will showcase a staggering total of 22 hours of animated films.

The International Competition is divided into three categories: Short Films (57 films), Feature Films (6 films), and Student Films (35 films).

In addition to the international competition, the National Competition will present the António Gaio Award and the Young Portuguese Filmmaker Award. The latter is split into two categories: films made by children under 18 years of age and first films made by youngsters aged between 18 and 30. This year’s National Competition will feature a total of 32 films, an increase compared to last year’s count of 31 works. This represents approximately four hours of Portuguese production.

The National Competition includes the António Gaio Award (13 films), Young Portuguese Director Award for those aged between 18 and 30 years old (9 films), and Young Portuguese Director Award for those under 18 years old (10 films)."
