The international animation film festival CINANIMA 2023, which will be held in Espinho, Portugal, from November 13 to 19, has revealed the names of its jury panel for each competitive category. The jury panel is composed of 12 distinguished figures from the animation field, coming from different countries and backgrounds. They will have the challenging task of choosing the best animated films among hundreds of entries from all over the world.

The jury panel for each category is as follows:

  • International Competition: Alberto Vázquez (Spain), Britt Raes (Belgium), Jim Van Der Keyl (USA), João Gonzalez (Portugal) and Maria Anestopolou (Greece).
  • National Competition: Andrea Bauer (Germany), Igor Prassel (Slovenia), Priit Tender (Estonia) and Nikola Majdak (Serbia).
  • Student Competition: Tessa Moult-Milewska (United Kingdom), Wiola Sowa (Poland) and Anders Narverud Moen (Norway).
  • Young Portuguese Director Competition: João Levezinho (Portugal) and Regina Machado (Portugal).

The jury panel members are all animation directors, illustrators, scriptwriters, producers, curators or lecturers who have a vast experience and knowledge in the animation industry. Some of them have won prestigious awards or participated in renowned festivals with their own animated films. Others have been involved in organizing or programming animation events or teaching animation courses. All of them share a passion and appreciation for animation as an art form.

CINANIMA 2023 is one of the oldest and most respected animation film festivals in Europe. It aims to promote and celebrate animation as a cultural and artistic expression, as well as to foster the development and recognition of animators from Portugal and abroad. The festival offers a rich and diverse programme that includes competitive screenings, retrospectives, workshops, masterclasses, exhibitions and other activities related to animation. CINANIMA 2023 is also a qualifying festival for the Academy Awards and the European Animation Awards.
