Izmir Short Film Festival announces jury members for 24th edition

The 24th Izmir Short Film Festival, which will take place between November 14 and 19, 2023, has revealed the names of the jury members who will evaluate the films in different categories. The festival, supported by various institutions, is the only cinema festival in Izmir and the first one to give awards to international short films in Turkey.

The jury members of the 24th Izmir Short Film Festival have been announced. The festival, which is the only cinema festival in Izmir and the first one to give awards to international short films in Turkey, will be held between November 14 and 19, 2023, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, French Cultural Center and German Cultural Center.

The jury of the national fiction category, which consists of 12 short films, will be chaired by director Erdem Tepegöz. The jury will also include actress Bihter Dinçel, cinematographer Gökhan Atılmış, art director and sculptor Cumhur Ata Türk and film critic Ekrem Buğra Büte. The jury members will not only evaluate the films, but also share their industry experience with young filmmakers.

The jury of the animation and experimental category, which will select the short animation film that will be eligible to apply for the Academy Awards from Turkey, will be composed of animator Varol Yaşaroğlu, musician Nil İpek and academician Kerem Kaban. The jury of the documentary category will consist of documentary director Deniz Yüksel Abalıoğlu, Sezer Ağgez and academician Sabire Soytok. The jury of the international category will feature Bulgarian director Nadja Koseva, director and producer Igor Toholj and academician Prof. Dr. Alev Parsa.

The projects that will be evaluated in the Izmir Film Lab will be judged by producer Zeynep Koray, producer Zeynep Santıroğlu Sutherland and Sait Aksoy from Başka Sinema for the national projects, and academician Dilek Tunalı, director Elçin Elgin and Karaca Cinema operator Serdar Arslan for the Izmir projects.

The festival will also offer a distribution and support award to six short films in collaboration with Başka Sinema. The award will include screening opportunities in digital and physical platforms, open-air venues and cinema halls, as well as consultation and advice for the filmmakers’ film production and distribution processes and their first feature film projects.
