IFFR Pro's co-production market, CineMart 2024 is set to host the second edition of the Darkroom programme, featuring work-in-progress screenings of projects previously supported by CineMart and HBF. This exclusive session will take place on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, providing selected teams with valuable expert consultancy. The opportunity to present their work to an exclusive panel comprising international sales agents, festival programmers, and buyers enhances the potential for collaboration and recognition.

Feature Projects:

  1. Diamonds in the Sand: Directed by Janus Victoria, the film follows an ageing salaryman leaving Tokyo for unpredictable Manila to escape kodokushi, the lonely death.
  2. Mongrel: Directed by Wei Liang, the film explores the struggles of Oom, an undocumented migrant caring for the elderly and disabled in the mountains of Taiwan.
  3. The Idyll: Directed by Aaron Rookus, this life-affirming mosaic drama weaves the stories of six individuals searching for the perfect fulfillment of life.
  4. La vie devant nous: Directed by Olivier Meys, the film depicts the story of Jahia, a 16-year-old asylum seeker from Burkina Faso, finding solace and energy through her friendship with Mila.

Darkroom Immersive Projects:

  • Alternates: Directed by Jonathan Hagard, this musical uchronia explores the consequences of disappearing culture in the town of Ubud in Bali.
  • Duchampiana: Directed by Lilian Hess, this artistic VR experience delves into body politics, inviting viewers to engage in a physical transgression of social constructs inspired by Duchamp's iconic Nude Descending a Staircase.

The Darkroom 2024 session will precede the IFFR Pro Awards on the evening of Tuesday, January 30, as part of the larger CineMart event, running from Sunday, January 28, to Wednesday, January 31.
