IFFR 2024 Elevates Emerging Film Talent with Diverse Training Programs

Short Summary:

IFFR 2024 is set to host over 100 up-and-coming filmmakers through its IFFR Pro training programs, including Rotterdam Lab, Creative Producer Indaba, and BoostNL. These initiatives aim to enhance the skills of emerging talents, foster professional connections, and provide insights into international co-production.

The International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) 2024 is preparing to welcome an impressive group of over 100 emerging filmmakers from around the world. These participants will engage in various training programs under the banner of IFFR Pro, designed to hone their filmmaking skills and broaden their professional networks.

Rotterdam Lab

A standout feature of IFFR Pro is the Rotterdam Lab. Celebrating its 24th edition, this five-day program offers a suite of panel sessions, roundtables, and networking events. It's a prime opportunity for 66 producers from over 40 countries, nominated by 43 partner organizations, to refine their co-producing expertise and establish international ties. New participants this year, selected through an open call and over 160 applications, include Eduardo Tello (Peru), Liliana Lasprilla (Portugal), Marta Gmosińska (Poland), Patricia D'Intino (Hungary), and Tricia Sello (Botswana). The Rotterdam Lab also welcomes new collaborators like the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) and the returning Royal Film Commission – Jordan.

Participants will explore the trajectory of international co-productions, from conception to funding, production, and big-screen release. Highlights include a day focused on financing, featuring insights from the Hubert Bals Fund and expert Juliane Schulze, alongside roundtables covering production, sales, and distribution.

Creative Producer Indaba

The Creative Producer Indaba targets professionals working on African film projects. This year, 15 participants, including producers and other film professionals, will enhance their entrepreneurial and leadership skills. The program began at the Atlas Workshops during the Marrakech International Film

Festival and continues in Rotterdam with group sessions and seminars. Mentoring will be provided by experienced professionals like Mehret Mandefro, Diana Elbaum, Elias Ribeiro, Sata Cissokho, and Tracey Lee Rainers. This initiative is supported by various international organizations, including the Institut Français d'Afrique du Sud, Projeto Paradiso, and The Storyboard Collective.

BoostNL

BoostNL, a 5-month development initiative in partnership with the Nederlands Film Festival’s Holland Film Meeting, welcomes six projects this year. It offers a platform for Dutch and international projects supported by the Hubert Bals Fund. The program, led by Uruguayan producer Agustina Chiarino and Dutch consultant Fay Breeman, focuses on group workflows and feedback methods, enhancing both artistic and production aspects of film development.

Launchpad

The Launchpad, a collaboration among several international film festivals, aims to propel the careers of emerging film professionals. Participants, selected by various festivals and markets, gain access to a network of festivals and receive industry accreditation and guidance through different programs.
