Cannes Hosts Screen International’s 2024 Global Production Awards

Screen International’s 2024 Global Production Awards in Cannes, France, honored Bafta Albert, True Detective: Night Country, Saudi Arabia’s Film AlUla, and UK city Bristol among others. Bafta Albert received the Special Recognition award, while True Detective: Night Country won the Sustainable Production Award (scripted). Saudi Arabia’s Film AlUla won two awards and Bristol was named City of Film.

The second annual Global Production Awards by Screen International took place on May 20, 2024, at the Mademoiselle Gray d’Albion Plage in Cannes, France. The event celebrated outstanding achievements in the global film production industry, with notable wins for Bafta Albert, HBO’s True Detective: Night Country, Saudi Arabia’s Film AlUla, and the UK city of Bristol.

Bafta Albert received the Special Recognition award for its significant contributions to climate action within the screen industry. The organization provides a range of resources, including online tools, training, events, and practical guidance to help industry professionals address climate challenges effectively.

The Sustainable Production Award (scripted) was awarded to Night Country, the fourth season of HBO’s acclaimed series True Detective. Created by Issa Lopez, the season featured performances by Jodie Foster, Christopher Eccleston, Fiona Shaw, and John Hawkes.

Saudi Arabia's Film AlUla emerged as a significant winner, securing the Emerging Location award sponsored by the Dallas Film Commission and the Film Commission Award. Additionally, NEOM, another Saudi Arabian location, received a Highly Commended recognition in the Emerging Location category.

Provence Studios, located near Marseille in southern France, won the Sustainability Initiative Award for its ecological practices. The studio is known for its commitment to environmental sustainability, incorporating animals like chickens, goats, and bees into its operations. The UK city of Bristol was honored with the City of Film award, highlighting its contributions to the film industry.

The event acknowledged various partners and supporters, including Gold Partner the British Film Commission, Silver Partners Calgary Economic Development, On Set Locations, and Screen Scotland, as well as Brand South Africa. Category Partner Dallas Film Commission and Supporting Partner Olsberg.SPI were also recognized for their contributions.
